There are 49 legislative districts (LDs) in Washington state. Like the counties, each has a Democratic Party organization which operate independently under the umbrella of the Washington State Democrats. Also, like the county organizations, LD organizations elect a two state committee representatives (1 man and 1 woman, for gender equity) to represent us at meetings of the Washington State Democratic Central Committee and vote on issues raised at that level. The LD organizations have similar responsibilities and goals as well: :
Boundaries: Unlike the counties which have static boundaries based on the border of the county, legislative district boundaries can change every ten (10) years because they are determined by population distribution. Legislative Representatives GHC is currently represented in the state legislature by the nine members of our Coastal Caucus. We have nine representatives because we have three legislative districts (LD) within our county's boundaries, the 19th, 24th, and 35th. As such, one senator and two representatives from each LD represent GHC. This gives us strong representation in Olympia.
