Legislative Districts

There are 49 legislative districts (LDs) in Washington state.  Like the counties, each has a Democratic Party organization which operate independently under the umbrella of the Washington State Democrats.

Also, like the county organizations, LD organizations elect a two state committee representatives (1 man and 1 woman, for gender equity) to represent us at meetings of the Washington State Democratic Central Committee and vote on issues raised at that level.   The LD organizations have similar responsibilities and goals as well:  :
                • help fill sudden vacancies in partisan elected positions
                • vote on endorsements and nominations
                • recruit Democratic Precinct Committee Officers (PCOs)
                • assist Democratic campaigns
                • give local people a voice in local, state and national party issues
                • run caucuses and conventions
                • help connect citizens with their representatives
                • present programs on issues
                • work to effect change
                • and much, much more

Boundaries:  Unlike the counties which have static boundaries based on the border of the county, legislative district boundaries can change every ten (10) years because they are determined by population distribution.  For more information on that process, please visit the Washington State Redistricting Commission.

Legislative Representatives
GHC is currently represented in the state legislature by the nine members of our Coastal Caucus.  We have nine representatives because we have three legislative districts (LD) within our county's boundaries, the 19th, 24th, and 35th.  As such, one senator and two representatives from each LD represent GHC.  This gives us strong representation in Olympia.   These representatives are:
The above map shows the boundaries of the county and the legislative districts.  If you are unsure of which legislative district you live in, and the map does not make it clear, go to our link "Find Your State and Congressional Representative & Senators" and type in your address.
