About Us

The Grays Harbor Democrats are officially known as the Grays Harbor Democratic Central Committee & Club.  The Central Commitee is responsible for all organization activities within Grays Harbor County (GHC).  An important part of the political process, we:
                • help fill sudden vacancies in partisan elected positions
                • vote on nominations and endorsements
                • recruit Democratic Precinct Committee Officers (PCOs)
                • assist Democratic campaigns
                • give local people a voice in local, state and national party issues
                • run caucuses and conventions
                • help connect citizens with their representatives
                • present programs on issues
                • work to effect change
                • and much, much more
Visit the Volunteer page to see more activities Club Members are involved in and ways a new member  can be a part of people-powered politics.  The Democratic Party considers itself a grassroots organization and getting involved at the county level means members can have an effect at the state and national levels.

There are 39 counties in Washington state.  Each have their own county organization which operate independently under the umbrella of the Washington State Democrats.  The county organizations elect a two state committee representatives (1 man and 1 woman, for gender equity) to represent them at meetings of the Washington State Democratic Central Committee and vote on issues raised at that level.

Board:  The Central Committee's Executive Board consists of Chair, Vice-Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, State Committeeman, State
Committeewoman and Past-Chair (see column at left) plus nine board members-at-large, three from each commissioner district.  (See the map at right for the commissioner districts.)   The Executive Board is elected by the PCOs except the treasurer who is appointed by the chair.  The nine board members from the commissioner districts are elected by each district caucus with only the PCOs from that district voting.  A member does not need to be a PCO to run for a position on the board.  Elections occur every two years in December of even years.

Precinct Committee Officers (PCOs):  PCOs are elected during the primary election in even-numbered years.  PCOs are also privileged to be the leaders in organizing their neighborhoods.  It is fun and fulfilling.  A person interested in how to become a PCO, what PCOs do, or how they can help their PCO, can visit our Precinct Committee Officers page.
